FURILOFCHE is a personal project developed at the Tribu de Trueno residency in collaboration with Virginia Brezniw. This work seeks to celebrate and bring attention to contemporary Mapuche identities in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. What started as a photography project quickly evolved into an education in adaptability, field research and interculturalism. The final exhibition brought together individuals from around the community for a conversation on indigenous rights, conservation and identity.
This experience would not have been possible without the help of many friends and mentors, especially Barbara Vinconti, Sato Cereceda and Virginia Brezniw for their guidance, wisdom and friendship. Equally so, I am grateful for the openness of Deigo Pichuman, Jessica Millalonco, Adrian Moyano, Graciela Huenchupan, Maria Rosa Painefil and Anahi Rayen Mariluan in sharing their stories and perspectives. Recognizing and celebrating the broad spectrum contemporary Mapuche identities can help us understand a more complete and honest history of indigenous communities in Argentina.
